30 kids took part in the club's GoRide session on Wednesday.
The group was split into the 3 groups with coaches Andy and Simon taking the Red and Blue groups for half and hour each and Matt coaching the black group for an hour.
This week the coaches concentrated on cornering and braking, using GoRide drills and activities to explain the finer points of how to get down a hill and round corners quickly and safely.
Martin Johnstone, David Forsyth and Tori Williamson came along for the first time, Martin even managed to finish high up in the Cyclo Cross race at the end of the evening and said "I was just pleased not to come last!"
In the Black group Matt worked with the kids on a downhill slalom and timed the kids riding the course. Matt said "After the riders practised, I timed them riding the course so I could show how small changes in riding can make a big difference"
To get a fast time, riders must avoid mistakes and need to implement the coaching points: inside pedal up when cornering, and looking round the corner and to ride smoothly.
First time out, Nine year old Cal flew down the route in a time of 21 seconds, the fastest so far! His second run was a bit slower after over-cooking a couple of corners. Erica too had a fast first run but couldn't repeat it on her second attempt
Ryan, Alex, Innes, Abby, and Finlay all managed faster times on their second run, with Emily and jade showing consistency by equalling their times.
The session was finished off with a 'behind the snake' where riders take turns leading the bunch. Jade won the Black group sprint, with Alex second and Innes third.
The final activity of the evening was a cyclo cross race combining all three groups. The race is handicapped with the Blue and Red groups starting before the Black. The riders have to cover two laps of the circuit which includes a 'jump off and run section'
Six year old Kyle, from the Blue group, lead for most of the way before being pipped by Innes on the line.
Thanks to everyone who came along and especially Jim Forsyth who helped with coaching the Blue group.
