When most of West Lothian's sporting events were cancelled it was a pleasure to see the kids enjoying themselves and getting a raucous support from the spectators at the club's end of year Cyclo Cross race
The course was designed by, kids, Alex and Cameron with help from the coach Ball and President Mason, it included three technical sections through woods, a jump over and a tricky hairpin before a sprint to the finish.
The day was made up of three events, a one lap time trial round the circuit, so the riders could get seeded and then two races, with riders placed depending on their TT time.
Spectator and competitors indulged in some tasty treats supplied by the members, including festive mince pies, rocky road and hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream. mmmm.
The first group rode a 5 lap race. Brothers Cameron and Jamie shot off at the start closely followed by Innes and Ryan while Alison, Alex, Cal, Daisy and Alastair jockeyed for position behind. These three groups fought their way to the line with each of the packs turning into mini races within the race.
In a last ditch attempt to beat his older brother, Cameron made a move to get by but crashed on the final hairpin. Jamie won with cameron closely following him.
Third place was yet to be decided, Innes and Ryan were together until the last lap when Ryan managed to pull away and picked up the final podium position.
The next race, with the younger riders, was contested over three laps.
Andrew had a quick start, closely followed by Sam and Findlay. As the race progressed, Andrew stretched his lead, but Findlay and Sam were neck and neck, swapping places over the next two laps until Sam's experience paid off and he managed to get ahead of Findlay. Behind Stuart, Hamish, Anna, and Murray fought on, with the final placings decided by a tightly contested sprint.
