Chilling Stuff

With winter taking a real bite at us there was no chance of holding back Clarion Riders Cameron and Jamie Mason.

Irrespective of the minus 6 temperature and couple of inches (as it was then) of snow the boys were determined to put in an appearance at the Kings Park Glasgow Grand Prix. The organiser, Glenmarnock Wheelers, had put in a huge effort on the day to ensure the race went ahead.

There was a big turnout in the under 12's race with 16 children lined up to start. Although the course had no hurdles or banks to climb it was still very testing with a long climb up a hill then some tight turns through trees. One bend had a nasty off camber turn which caught out quite a few riders.

Cameron put in a lot of effort but a virus that week had robbed him of the power required and he finished off the pace in 8th place. All credit to him for racing and he was still pleased with his result.

Jamie had a very successful race in the Youth under 14's.

The full length course was very compact with few technical challenges other than the obligatory double hurdle which was not as high as usual, this led one eager rider to attempt to jump them and resulted in an over the handlebars incident. The course was however very demanding and there was no room for a breather as even cycling downhill required some effort due to the snow.

Calum McGowan, pictured passing Jamie, continued his dominance of the Youth SCX series with a very strong 1st place, over 3 minutes ahead of 2nd and came 4th overall in the under 16's.

Jamie stuck to his usual strong steady consistent pace and finished a seasons best in 5th, just behind Mathew Peters of Wallace Warriors.

A fantastic effort by both boys despite no training.

Sadly the weather has robbed us of a large contingent of Clarion riders going to Irvine but it's only postponed so there's still time to enter!

It's a great opportunity to race and show off our colours beside the seaside beside the sea !
